They produce locally handmade candles and diffusers made from natural oils and waxes, but the Hood and May story is much more than that. They are Charlie and Julia Griffiths, twelve year old son and supportive mother. In early 2004, whilst pregnant, Julia was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Following surgery and four initial courses of chemotherapy, Julia gave birth to a boy. Further treatments followed during which Julia took the decision to help her recovery by eliminating dairy, wheat and gluten from her diet. Surprised by the lack of options available, she started to bake her own cakes, biscuits and puddings. Businesses, awards and books followed which inspired young Charlie to start his own business and so Hood and May was born.
