2017 Charitable Donations Announced!

AUGUST 2017:

Organisers of The 2017 Shobdon Food and Flying Festival sponsored by Discover Bestparks have hailed this year’s event a huge success after confirming they’ve been able to donate thousands of pounds to local charities and good causes. Over the weekend of July 1st and 2nd, the sun shone and the crowds came out in their thousands from across the county and across the country with Shobdon’s historic World War Two airfield recording one of its busiest ever weekends. Visitors were treated to an incredible array of aviation attractions as well as the finest collection of artisan food producers and craftspeople assembled in the event’s 13-year history.

People had the chance to take to the skies with an instructor from Herefordshire Aero Club while the gastronomically adventurous were able to take instruction from top local chefs with star of The Great British Bake Off, Howard Middleton, headlining a packed schedule of demonstrations.

One of the organisers, Marcus Woof said: “It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves trying all the different food and drink on offer. We hope many of them got a taste for aviation as well.”

The Festival, which also hosted ‘An Evening with The Rat Pack’ starring ITV weather presenter, Des Coleman as part of the weekend, has been able to support a fund in the village to build a new children’s playground to the tune of £4,000. They also invited various local good causes to raise their own funds over the weekend including Hereford’s Royal National College for the Blind and Shobdon Primary School. Collectively those causes raised in excess of £3,000. A donation of £2,000 has also been made to Shobdon church and £1,000 given to Shobdon Village Hall. The local football club has also been supported.

Marcus Woof added, “As well as raising money for Herefordshire Aero Club, it’s great that the weekend has been able to support so many local good causes. It really is an event run by and for the local community and it’s great that everyone’s hard work can be reflected. We’d like to thank all our club members, volunteers, sponsors and friends for their fantastic support. It really was the best one yet!”
