Shobdon Church

leftThe home of the Food Festival for our first eight years, Shobdon’s beautiful church will be open throughout the weekend for you to visit. As well as being at the heart of the community, the church of St. John the Evangelist, Shobdon is also one of the most unusual and important archeological sites of its kind in the world. ‘Strawberry Hill Gothic’ is the official name for its very unusual interior, although many visitors simply liken the blue and white decor to a wedding cake. 2012 saw the completion of a long process of essential restoration totalling £1.25m that meant the church was closed to visitors for many months. It is now well and truly back open again and as well as having a fund-raising presence with us at the festival itself, church members will also be standing by to give you a guided tour.
